  • Beijing Postcards Gallery Yang Mei Zhu Xie Jie Xicheng Qu, Beijing Shi China (map)

This Life of Mine is a story told through the eyes of a low-level Beijing police officer. Patrolling the dusty hutongs of the capital in the years China went from dynasty to republic, the main character whose name is never revealed tries to make sense of all the changes in society. He has a big honest heart and wishes to serve justice, but the attitude of his superiors confuses him. ”Your job is to solve small problems, to minimize big problems and above all not to disobey your superiors” – he is told. but even though he is not overly brave his humanitarian values slowly involves him in the revolutionary fight for a new society. In a world of corrupt officials, random killings and opium smoking it is not easy for a flat footed police officer to take a stand. This life of Mine is based on a book by Laoshe. It was made in to a movie 1950 and is one of the very first movies produced after liberation.
