Movie Night: the Last Emperor

  • Beijing Postcards Gallery Yang Mei Zhu Xie Jie Xicheng Qu, Beijing Shi China (map)

Before coming to China travelers to China often watch Bernardo Bertolucci’s the Last Emperor. Ever since the movie premiered and won an Oscar in 1987 the story of the 6-year-old boy emperor inside the enormous Imperial palace has been the first glimpse into Chinas dynastic past for so many. In April the Beijing Postcards Movie Club will show Bernardo Bertoluccis classic, and as always we will start out with a thorough 30 minutes explanation of the background of the movie. We will among other things explain why there are two versions of the movie, and how a foreigner got the permit to film inside the Palace, and not least in what places is the movie not accurate.

Cost: In-person: 135RMB per person (incl. cocktail, beer & soft drinks);
