The NightWatch

When night fell upon the city of Beijing during the Qing dynasty, a curfew was imposed. The massive gates in the city wall would be shut and the banner-watchmen would patrol the streets. The background material for this walk comes from a nearly 200 year old “Police” archives first published in 1851. These old documents tell stories of murderers, drunks, rebels and other unfortunate people that entered the files of the Banner-watchmen. During the walk we will use a portable projector to project pictures outside help making the Qing dynasty capital come alive once more.

3 hours walk-and-talk in the Drum & Bell Tower Area (in the evening)
