Our first movie pick is The Teahouse《茶馆》from 1982. Based on a book by Laoshe, it describes the 50 years leading up to the Communist “liberation” in 1949 through different characters in and around a typical Beijing teahouse. The movie is with English subtitles.

We will start off with a 10-15 minute introduction to the film’s background before we watch the movie, and if you have time you can stay for a small discussion afterwards.
