Boxer Rebellion - Under Siege Walking Tour

The Boxer Rebellion is the story of one of the most important incidents in modern Beijing history. Through the dramatic events of the year 1900 where the Diplomatic Quarter of Beijing was held under siege by the Boxers and the Imperial army, we will tell the history of the foreign diplomatic representation in the capital, and show how the subsequent brutal occupation of Beijing by the Eight Allied Nations kickstarted an irreversible development. Universities, the first newspapers of the capital, a Western style police force, public toilets, rickshaws, 5 star hotels and much more all developed out of the occupation, and it is not exaggeration to say that the year 1900 was the exact time modernity hit Beijing like a tsunami.
